Visit our old country school during Greene County Fair
July 12 @ 9:00 am - July 13 @ 5:00 pm
Come experience how country schools operated decades ago, on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, during the Greene County Fair in Jefferson.
“Bristol No. 7” country schoolhouse will be staffed those days by Becki Cunningham, who attended a country school. Cunningham, a member of the board of directors of the Greene County Historical Society, will explain what rural education was once like in the county, share historical details and answer questions. She’ll be there 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days.
The schoolhouse was built in 1874, restored by the historical society in 1967 and repaired again in the last three years by the organization. It is also known as the “Minnihan Schoolhouse,” after the family that owned surrounding land and donated the building for re-location to the fairgrounds.
Admission is free, both to the fair and to the schoolhouse.
